The Residence

4501 Livingston was completed in 2001, on the kind of Highland Park block where the houses are read building-by-building. The owners did not chase a trend. They built in red brick and rough-cut limestone, set the windows in leaded glass, and hung a wood arched door over the porch under a single lantern. The result reads as if it has always been there.

Inside, the plan opens into a sequence of formal rooms. Two fireplaces anchor the public spaces. Crown molding runs the length of the ceilings. Arched openings carry the eye from the entry, through the great room, into the dining room and back toward the kitchen. The kitchen carries a gas cooktop. The bedrooms, all five, sit upstairs.
